Biografía

Inés Bolaños Somoano is an IBEI Fellow in International Security at the Institut Barcelona Estudis Internationals. She holds a Doctorate in Political and Social Sciences from the European University Institute, EUI (Italy), under the supervision of prof. Olivier Roy. She has been a Visiting Researcher since her PhD at the Institute for Security and Global Affairs, ISGA, at Leiden University (the Netherlands). Before her current lecturer position, she was employed at ISGA as a post-doctoral researcher by professor Tahir Abbas at Leiden University, for DRIVE Project, an EU H2020 project on the role of social exclusion and radicalisation to extremism in north-western Europe.

Her PhD thesis looked at the emergence and consolidation of Prevention of Radicalization and Violent Extremism (P/CVE) as a distinct counter-terrorism policy field in the European Union. Her current research examines European right-wing extremism and online radicalization, and assesses current counter-terrorism strategies focusing on online right wing milieus. Inés is a qualitative researcher, employing policy archives, semi-structured interviews, focus groups, qualitative text analysis and policy analysis.
