The first IBEI Annual Conference on Global Economic Governance at a Crossroads: Reimagining Trade And Development Cooperation in The XXI Century will bring together high-level representatives from governments, private sector, academia, international organizations and civil society to exchange views and debate the ongoing process of transformation of the global economic governance architecture, which has accelerated in recent times due to the changing nature of globalization and technological innovation, as well as the recent COVID-19 pandemic and other geopolitical and policy shocks, among many other factors. The conference will contribute to a better understanding of the critical challenges facing the global economic order and explore the opportunities offered by these changes to our local political, economic, and social actors. The conference will focus on how these structural changes, driven by new policy paradigms such as the return to protectionism, the dismantling of traditional development cooperation, the realignment of multipolar centers of power, and challenges to global consensus on climate and sustainability, are reshaping global economic governance.

The conference will open with a keynote address and conversation with a distinguished speaker, providing a high-level perspective on the overarching themes of the conference. Each panel will then begin with brief framing remarks by a designated speaker to introduce the key issues and provide context for the discussion. These remarks will be followed by a moderated conversation among the panelists, bringing in diverse perspectives and encouraging interactive dialogue with the audience.
