Biography
Martijn Vlaskamp is a Ramón y Cajal Assistant Professor at the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI). He previously held a Juan de la Cierva-Incorporación Fellowship (2021–2024) and a Beatriu de Pinós Fellowship (2018–2021), both at IBEI, as well as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Global Fellowship at Yale University and IBEI (2015–2018).
He received his PhD in International Relations and European Integration from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2014. During his doctoral studies, he was a visiting fellow at the University of Cambridge and at the Belgian Royal Institute for International Relations (EGMONT).
Martijn's research interests include natural resource governance, political violence, and EU foreign policy, often bringing these fields together in his work. He is currently studying the role of natural resources in shaping the geopolitics of the renewable energy transition.
Martijn's work has been published in leading international journals, and he is the co-editor of three edited volumes. His research has been funded by European, Spanish, and Catalan public research agencies, as well as private foundations.
